Expédition en ski de randonnée

Guided ski touring

It is the most demanding activity we offer at Val d'Isère, and the one people come back from most changed. The principle is simple: you climb on skis, with skins stuck under the bases, where no lift goes, and you ski down through snow nobody has touched. What surprises people is not the effort, it is the silence. Three hours of climbing without a mechanical sound does not tell well and is understood in a single morning. Let us be clear about what it asks. You need to ski ungroomed snow competently, and you need to be able to walk uphill for three to five hours without suffering. The climbing technique is learned in an hour. The endurance is not. So we will ask you precise questions before confirming an outing, and we will suggest an introductory day rather than a traverse if that is the sensible thing. Val d'Isère's position is ideal for this: you are on the edge of the Vanoise park, with routes accessible straight out of the resort and genuine multi-day traverses for those who want them.

Duration

A day, or several with hut nights for a genuine traverse

When to go

January to May. Spring is the best season, settled snow and long days

Pricing

From €600 for one or two people

The entry rate covers the mountain guide for one or two people. Beyond that each participant is quoted separately. Safety equipment is included. Skins, touring skis and ski crampons can be hired if you do not own them: count them separately, and whatever you do, do not turn up with your piste skis. A multi-day traverse adds the hut nights, which are booked very early for the spring.
