Saint-Paul-de-Vence is two hours by road from Saint-Tropez, but a short half hour from Cannes and three quarters of an hour from Monaco, from where we also run it. From the peninsula, you should know that before setting off: it is a real day out, not a quick escape. What justifies it is the Fondation Maeght (Giacometti, Miró, Chagall, Braque, in a building and gardens conceived for them) and a medieval village you can walk in an hour when you know which doors to open. Our guides know which galleries are worth the stop and which are there only for the coaches. Car, guide, entry and table booked together.

The village and the Fondation Maeght
The ramparts, the lanes, the cemetery where Chagall lies, then the Fondation Maeght: opened in 1964 by Aimé and Marguerite Maeght, in a building by Josep Lluís Sert, with the Giacometti courtyard and the Miró labyrinth. One of the finest modern art collections in Europe, and it is visited outdoors as much as indoors.
Lunch in the village
La Colombe d'Or for the history (the canvases left by painters who paid in pictures) or Les Remparts for the view over the valley. Two different registers: the first is an institution that must be booked far ahead, the second is simpler and quieter.
Lunch nearby
Les Pivoines or Alain Llorca's house, on the La Colle-sur-Loup road, when you would rather have a gastronomic table in peace than the village's crowds. Our recommendation in high summer.

Pricing
€500 – €1,000 per day
That is the guide's rate, depending on which guide, the language and the length of the day. Transport is on top and we handle it, with two options: a van with driver at your disposal, €150 an hour, or a return transfer we arrange. On this particular day the van makes a good case for itself, the Fondation Maeght, the village and the lunch table are not in the same place. Entry to the Foundation and lunch are quoted separately.
