Château de la Chèvre d'Or

La Chèvre d'Or is not a hotel inside a village: it is part of the village, a series of medieval houses linked by lanes and terraced gardens, four hundred metres above the sea. Opened in 1953 and a Relais & Châteaux member, it holds one of the coast's two two-starred tables, under Tom Meyer, Meilleur Ouvrier de France. Les Remparts and Le Café du Jardin complete the offering, with the same view. You reach it on foot, cars stop below. That is precisely what makes it the most romantic address in our book.
