Perfume workshop

Grasse is half an hour from Cannes and has been the world capital of perfume since the eighteenth century, not a tourist label but an industrial fact: a good share of the scents you know were formulated a few hundred metres from there. Three historic houses open their workshops to the public, and they do not quite do the same thing. The principle, though, is the same everywhere: you start from the raw materials, learn to recognise them, understand that a perfume is built in three storeys, then compose your own formula and leave with the bottle. It is the best thing to do in the region on a wet day, the only one that interests an adult and a twelve-year-old equally, and the one holiday souvenir you cannot buy anywhere else. We book the slot, choose the house to suit your group, and arrange the journey.

The options

Galimard, the Studio des Fragrances

The house was founded in 1747 and its studio is the most complete of the three: you sit at a perfumer's organ, the architecture of a fragrance is explained (top, heart and base) and then you compose. You leave with a hundred millilitres of eau de parfum, and the formula stays archived with them: you can reorder it years later, as perfume, body cream or shower gel. Route de Pégomas, in Grasse.

Fragonard, the Apprenti-Parfumeur workshop

An hour and a half led by a perfumery professional, in a dedicated room at the La Fabrique des Fleurs factory. Booking compulsory. The format we suggest with teenagers: shorter, more instructive, and the factory can be toured straight afterwards.

Molinard, Boulevard Victor-Hugo

The historic house in the centre of Grasse, and the only one of the three with a short format for younger children: around thirty minutes, accompanied, with the bottle personalised. Useful when the parents want the long workshop and the little ones need occupying at the same time.

When to go

All year, by reservation. Galimard's workshops start at 10 am, 2 pm and 4 pm. Booking is compulsory everywhere

Pricing

We do not yet publish a rate for this workshop. What will determine it: the house chosen, the format (a shared workshop or a private session, the latter to be asked for in advance) the number of participants, and the size of the bottle you take away. Transport from Cannes is extra if you want it. Allow half an hour by road.
